It's Summer, and there are a lot of things competing for your time. There are vacations, visits from out-of-town family, kids out of school, and the beach. Then there's the hot weather and just plain feeling lazy. And so Zumba® class or other exercise is often the thing that gets sacrificed as something that's OK to miss.
And you know what, it's perfectly normal to miss some Zumba classes when life happens. Surprised I would say that as a Zumba Instructor?
I know I love teaching my Zumba classes, and I have lots of people who are really dedicated students, but the reality is that everyone is going to miss class at some point. Even Zumba Instructors will miss classes at times, and have someone sub for them. I just did it for the first time myself last week when I went on a long holiday weekend trip.
Oh they meant to keep coming to Zumba class, but one thing led to another and they're gone. Don't let that be you. Take a break when you need to do other things that conflict with the class schedule, but always come back. Put it down on your calendar and commit to yourself to get right back at it.
I know I don't mind when someone misses my Zumba class and then comes back when they can, and no one is going to hold your absence against you. It's normal. But giving up completely isn't. It's telling yourself that you're not worth taking care of. It's telling yourself that you don't deserve your "me time." It's telling yourself that you're stuck living a less than healthy life.
B.S! You're SO worth it.
And don't forget that there are also ways to keep up your Zumba throughout the Summer:
1. If you're traveling, use Zumba.com to find a class where you're going to be--not just in the U.S. but worldwide.
2. If you've got visitors, don't let them keep you from going to class, bring them with you and do something fun and healthy together. Plus, some classes will allow teens--my gym allows 12+ as long as the younger ones are supervised by an adult. And you just might earn a free class from your referrals. I give my class members a free class for three referrals.
3. Weather too hot? Look for an Aqua Zumba class--yes you can do Zumba moves in a pool!
